Established in 1998, Charles Beddington Ltd is a dealer and agent in Old Master Paintings, based in Mayfair, London. The gallery offers paintings from a broad range of periods and schools, with a leaning towards the 18th century and a particular speciality in Venetian view painting.

About Charles
Charles Beddington is well respected for his role as the pre-eminent scholar of Venetian view painting - Canaletto in particular.
A frequent contributor to and critic for The Burlington Magazine, as well as an author of exhibition catalogues and reference books. Subjects include Neapolitan and Venetian view painting.
Head of the London Old Master Picture Department at Christie’s from 1983 – 1998, he remained a consultant for Christie’s until May 2000. In 1998 he started Charles Beddington Ltd, 16 Savile Row (initially as Beddington & Blackman Ltd).
Charles has curated and written the catalogue for two major exhibitions: Canaletto in England: A Venetian Artist abroad 1746-1755, Yale Centre for British Art, New Haven 19 October – 31 December 2006, and Dulwich Picture Gallery, 24 January – 15 April 2007, and, Venice: Canaletto and his Rivals, National Gallery of Art, London 13 October 2010 – 16 January 2011, and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., 20 February – 30 May 2011. He also wrote the catalogue of the exhibition Luca Carlevarijs: Views of Venice, Timken Museum of Art, San Diego, April – August 2001.
Leopold Deliss
Gallery Manager
Leopold joined Charles Beddington Ltd. as Gallery Manager in 2013 and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the gallery, including exhibitions, sales, administration & the event space.
Previously an independent Art Advisor and Broker for a number of years, Leopold brings a wealth of experience in gallery management, formerly running both Amells Gallery in Stockholm and Messum’s London.

Research and Gallery Assistant
Emma joined the gallery in 2024 as a Research and Gallery Assistant, and is responsible for supporting both Charles in his research and Leopold in the gallery’s operations.
Alongside her work for Charles Beddington, Emma is also a research assistant at The Limner Company. Previously, she has worked for both the Old Master Paintings department at Sotheby’s London and Philip Mould & Company.
