ALBERTO PROSDOCIMI

(Venice 1852-1925)

Venice: Santa Maria della Salute

Watercolour on paper (?)

Signed ‘A.PROSDOCIMI.F’, lower left.

16 1/4 x 22 1/2 in. (57 x 41.4 cm.)

Provenance

Princess Antonia of Portugal (1884-1907).

Prosdocimi was known for his watercolour scenes of Venice, as well as for his manuscript illuminations, a tradition his father had also practised. He painted multiple versions of this particular view, the present work being one of the finest.

This large-scale watercolour was previously in the collection of Princess Antonia of Portugal. A previous backing board lists the name 'Hohenzollern', likely because Princess Antonia was married to Prince Leopold of Hohenzollern (1885-1905).
